2 Questions To Ask When Finding A New Daycare

Posted on

If you are looking for daycare centers, you may be struggling to find out the right one for you and your child. You should make sure that you do your due diligence and spend the time checking into several daycares and going in to interview them, so you have a good idea of what they offer. What are some of the things you should check into when you go to those interviews?

Teacher-to-Child Ratio

One thing to ask about is the teacher-to-child ratio. Those ratios are going to vary depending on the age of your child. Before you go into an interview, you might want to check into what your state laws are because that will give you a good base of knowledge to work from. For example, if your state says that infants require a teacher-to-child ratio of 3 to one, meaning three children per one teacher, then the daycare facility should have one teacher per three infants or better. An even better option would be a 2 to 1 ratio or a 1 to 1.

Late Policy

You should also check to see what the late policy is for the daycare. Some facilities will only allow a certain number of late pickups within a certain timeframe, like 2 a month, before they will actually ask you to leave their program. Other facilities may be more lenient, but you will have to pay an additional fee for being late. You may end up with a grace period, then have to pay per minute after that grace period. For example, you may get to a 15 minute grace period, because things beyond your control do happen, but after that, you have to pay $5.00 per minute that you are late. You want to make sure that you are aware of the late policy before you make your final decision, because it can really affect your financial bottom line. Also, find out if there are exceptions. An example of an exception would be if there was a huge traffic jam due to an accident, and you were blocked. If many parents from the daycare get caught in that, then the daycare may make an exception.

If you have a child, you may need to put them in daycare. You want to make sure that you are getting the best possible facility for your child.
